Free Shade Carrier for Duplex Lampshades with Every UK Order
British Duplex lampshades have an 11cm centre ring and require a shade carrier which is used to control the height of the lampshade relative to the table or floor lamp. This system allows for the lampshade to be easily lifted off the shade carrier, which is ideal when changing a bulb or dusting.
The base of the shade carrier connects to the fitting on the table lamp and works with standard European size (ES) lamp fittings and with the reducer ring clipped in, the British standard size fitting of 29mm. The reducer ring can easily be clipped in and out.
It is possible to connect a duplex lampshade to an American table lamp with harp or finial fitting. You will need one of our American Spider Adapters. We supply one free with every US order.
What size of shade carrier do I need?
You will need to measure the height of the lampshade from the duplex ring to the base. To do this, please place the lampshade on a flat surface. Using a tape measure or ruler, measure the distance between the duplex ring and the flat surface. As a general rule, to determine the size of shade carrier required, subtract 1.5 to 2 inches (4cm - 5cm) from your measurement. This will allow the lampshade to sit around two inches below the bulb holder, ensuring it is not visible.
In the example photo below, the measurement is 7.5" and a 6" shade carrier would be required.
We have 8 different sizes of Shade Carriers (4” 5”, 6”, 7”, 8", 9" ,10", 11"). We will send with your order the correct size for your duplex lampshade, free of charge.
