Pierre Frey Braquenié
Scenes De Campagne Original
Printed in France on cotton percale, this polychrome toile de Jouy with its bucolic scenes, its original coloring and its pronounced bisage is typical of the productions of the last quarter of the 18th century. It reproduces a Jouy canvas, printed with the block printing technique by the Royal Manufacture of Oberkampf around 1785. Its dating is attested by the presence of a dirigible balloon, the first flight of which was made from Paris in 1783. The document preserved in the Maison's archives is a quilt, probably used in a duchess bed. One can only imagine the dreams of travel fantasized at the time of falling asleep. Also available as wallpaper.
