Silk Sari Odisha India Early 20th C
Silk Sari, Odisha, India, Early 20th C. Silk, gold thread, weft ikat and supplementary warp weave.
Odisha saris were created in emulation of the legendary patola cloths of Gujarat. This very fine example with a design of swans, and patola-like floral borders, has the additional refinement of gold threads, added in elegant bands of supplementary warp.
Ex-collection Professor P. Gould who was professor of Art History at Columbia University and Sarah Lawrence College, and who had a noted Asian textile collection.
