John Sprakes was born in Yorkshire and studied at Doncaster College of Art and Edinburgh College of Art. His inspiration is often taken from the Norfolk and Suffolk landscapes where he uses colour, space and light to create a series of captivating paintings. His work depicts serene and isolation in the uninhabited beaches, sea cottages and beach huts found along this coastline.

John has exhibited widely in solo and mixed shows across the UK. His recent awards include The Le Clerc Fowle Gold Medal (ROI) and Manchester Academy Prize. John’s paintings are in private and public collections in the UK, Europe and USA.
