British artist recognised for his abstract works - son of Sir Terry Frost

The collage paintings of Anthony Frost have compositional tension; texture, form and colour are held in a balanced relationship of abstract shapes. Frost speaks of a sense of ‘flow’, a mood induced by deep internal concentration – often aided by listening to music – whereby the intuitive processes of the brain become dominant over the rational and predictive.

Anthony Frost's paintings are bright, full of colour and expression. At first sight, his work appears quite straightforward, but there is a complexity that includes repeated motifs (lines, triangles and dots) and a mix of materials including acrylic, hessian, sail cloth, string. He works fast and free, producing unpredictable and abstract images which he describes as honest, real and truthful. Although there is an element of planning in each work, there is also a random element which manifests itself in the creative process: Adding a piece of material or a tie that can change the painting's direction in unplanned ways.

In July 2009 Anthony Frost was awarded "Master of the University" in honour of services to the arts by the Open University, via Plymouth University (college of Art & Design).
