Sought-after painter who also teaches life drawing and painting at St. Ives School of Painting
Alice Mumford follows in the painterly tradition of such St. Ives artists as Christopher Wood and John Park. Her interiors sparkle with light and beauty, the rooms hang with the expectant air of a moment just passed or about to take place. She imbues her subject with far more than just a beautiful visual interpretation.
Following her training in painting at Camberwell, and recent solo exhibitions in London and Cornwall, Alice has a growing reputation for her observational paintings, mainly in oils. She teaches landscape, life and portraiture.
“When I stop and look at light bouncing of a coloured cloth, the shapes outside the window lit up, the richness and colour of the different objects on the table, yellow- green pears, a glass jug, a black cup, maybe tulips or pink campion, it calls me to paint. Colour and light, warm and cool; the relationship of the objects, one to another, the space around them and how this relates to me: it excites and absorbs me.”
