Exceptional Iznikware from the sons of Adnan Hoca
Master Artist Adnan Ergüler was born in Kutahya, a city with a great reputation from Ottoman Period that still has hundreds of ceramic workshops today. Erguler is a unique Turkish Iznik artisan and may be the last to work in the traditional way. He came up with the ideas, selected the clay, threw the piece, painted, glazed and firde it in the kiln. With 40 years’ experience, his original pieces are some of the most highly prized examples sold today. They are of exceptional beauty and quality, also extremely limited in quantity. His pieces are being snapped up by collectors in Turkey and other countries.
Erulger's sons Alper and Erdem continue his work and are now producing exceptional Iznik works of art.
The ceramics of Iznik were among the finest works of art produced in the Ottoman Empire. The technical quality of this pottery, the beauty and and immediacy of its designs have long made it one of the most popular art forms from the Islamic world. The Iznik ceramic industry was established and patronized by the Court of the Sultans, and its successive stylistic phases reflect major changes in Ottoman taste from the late 15th to the 17th century. Iznik quartz ceramics are the result of extremely difficult production methods that, carried out successfully, are characterized by an extra white undercoating, very hard glaze and underglaze decorations. The colours are the reflections of precious stones and last forever without fading. They are all derived from metal oxides. The quartz pieces absorbs negative energy and reduces radiation in the places they are used.
