Floren Lampshade Styles
Lampshades are made using a variety of fabrics and materials including silk, silk blends, linen, cotton, horsehair, parchment, burlap and paper. Floren make two types of lampshades: hardback shades & soft-sewn shades and there are many different styles and finishes for each type, as shown below.
The key to the appearance of the lampshade during the daytime lies in the choice of outer material and finish. Also important is the ambient glow the lampshade imparts to a room at night and this is often down to the choice of lining. Wonderful patterned designs, serene silks, and elegant vintage saris all make their individual statements. Floren are able to advise on which materials, textures and colours work best.
It is worth considering the purpose of the lamp and lampshade in your space. Do you need to add light to a dark space, or perhaps a gentle softness? Or is the shade to be used to compliment the interior, or bring additional textures and colours into the scheme?
Soft-sewn lampshades are generally lined in silk and the outer fabric can be pleated or nonpleated. They work well in both traditional and contemporary settings. We can even combine different pleating styles on the same shade.
Hardback lampshades are made by laminating a fabric or material onto a PVC liner, giving a clean-lined look. The material is attached to both the top and bottom rings of the frame and then glued on one or more sides, forming the seam. The inner PVC liner can be translucent, opaque or coloured and various trimmings are available to finish the shade.
