Unlike traditional Kilims or carpets, which are usually woven as one large piece, Jajims are typically woven in narrow strips (frequently 4 or 5 panels) that are 20 to 30 cm in width. These narrow strips are then sewn together to create a larger, uniform piece, with the selvedge often hiding the seams. They are generally warp-faced, meaning the vertical threads (warp) are colourful and dominate the design, while the horizontal threads (weft) are hidden.
